Writing 1: Integrated essay:

  • Time: Read (3min) / listen (2min) / write (20min)

1- Introduction: Intro structure: States the general relationship/ summarize the specific stances/ mention how the professor support his/her ideas (optional).

2- Body: OPTIONS:

A: 3 paragraphs: first point (second/third)/ professor idea/ contrast / extra details on professor’s point

B: 2 paragraphs:Main idea of R/ summarize 3 details/ Main idea of L/ summarize 3 details / briefly contrast each detail with reading

Structure A is better.

Writing 2: Independent essay

  • Time: 30 min: (plan/ write/Edite)
  • Introduction: Intro pieces: Very general statement about./ Elaborate on general statement/ Specify the topic / Show the other side/ Give your opinion
  • Paragraphs: 5 paragraphs:
  • Q: do you agree or disagree…/ Q: if…. :/ Q:some people believe that… , while other think …

Intro: Gives main idea

Body 1: Gives support for idea/ pick your stronger reason! State a reason / Give a concrete example/ detail / optional second example / Transition: similarly, / what’s more / return to general reason

Body 2: second reason (opposite of first reason) / transition: “in contrast”/ “on the other hand”/ “meanwhile”) / same structure again: general idea/ specifics/ return to big picture

Body 3: same again ( if you are finishing practice essay early)

Conclusion: restate the importance of the main idea / reference reasons or opposite opinion
